If there is romance, there is heartbreak. If there is love, there is hatred. If there is a Bollywood film, there is a villain. Villains are like the most integral part of a film in India. Rarely has a film been made without a good villain. Let us have a look at the history and growth of Villains in our film industry.


It was in SHOLAY that a villain was defined in Bollywood. Rohan Sippy caught the right nerve with Gabbar. He had to be ugly, he had to cruel, he had to be indifferent and he had to be someone who loves to have fun. (remember the Basanti dance sequence?) The success of Sholay can be largely attributed to truly one of the most iconic villains in Bollywood history. Gabbar Singh, unlike his semi-retarded companions on the list, was truly menacing. He was capable of killing without mercy and was vile from within.
